Los Angeles Surf Spots – South County
South Los Angeles (Surfline) (from Santa Monica to Long Beach) isn’t known for its amazing waves. The majority of this part of the county is simply west-facing…yes, they can get good, but…
Santa Monica State Beach – (MagicSeaweed) Mellow, mushy sandbar peaks. Mostly rights up to about head-high.
Hammerland – (wannaSurf) Great in the winter!!! Empty lineup, killer drops and barrels. The rights stand up on a North West swell.
El Porto – (MagicSeaweed) Crowded, consistent, good beach break barrels when it’s firing. Always bigger than close by spots.
Manhattan Beach – (MagicSeaweed) Popular beachbreak peaks on either side of the pier. Takes any tide except extreme high.
Hermosa Beach – (SURF-forecast.com) An exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf. Summer offers optimum conditions.
Redondo Breakwater – (wannaSurf) South Bay’s big winter wave spot. Waves form hollow wedging peak to a horrendous close out.
Redondo Beach – (wannaSurf) Loads of little kids learning to surf. If Manhattan and Hermosa aren’t choppy, no reason to go.
Torrance Beach – (MagicSeaweed) Beachbreak peaks at south end; mostly rights. Fairly consistent, especially during summer.
Haggerty’s – (MagicSeaweed) Classic and thick wintertime lefts off the rocky headland officially called Malaga Cove (in Palos Verdes). Three separate take-off zones. Lots of shallow rocks. Lots of locals deserving the proper respect.
Bluff Cove – (wannaSurf) In Palos Verdes, usually a pleasant vibe, despite the crowd. Good for middle-aged longboarders
Royal Palms State Beach – (SURF-forecast.com) is a sheltered reef and point break that has inconsistent surf. Summer is best.
Cabrillo Point – (MagicSeaweed) – Quality right point requiring large S swells to work. Long rides are possible; can be fat or fast.
Long Beach – (Magic Seaweed) – Miles and miles of average beachbreak fully exposed to the slings and arrows of summertime.
